Sophomore Liane Dixon scored two second-half goals to lift the visiting 10th-ranked Huskies to a 2-1 come-from-behind victory over 20th-ranked, crosstown rival Harvard Wednesday night at Jordan Field in Cambridge, Mass.
"We played reasonably well," said NU coach Cheryl Murtagh, whose team improved to 10-2. "We need to finish more on offense and tighten up a bit on defense. It's always tough playing Harvard. It was just great to come out with a win."
The teams played to a scoreless tie in the first half. Harvard's Philomena Gambale gave the Crimson (6-3) a 1-0 lead with a goal in the 45th minute of play.
However, the lead didn't last for long. Less than five minutes later, Dixon tipped in Fior Arrindell's shot off a corner and into the upper corner of the cage to knot the game at one. Dixon netted the game-wining goal 10 minutes later at the 60:57 mark, when she dribbled through two Harvard defenders and deked out Crimson goalie Katie Zacarian.
NU's Emily Roy stopped eight shots in net for her ninth win of the season. Harvard outshot the Huskies 15-5 and held a slim penalty corner advantage, 6-5.
