Northeastern lost its second match of the Valparaiso Invitational, falling in four games to Fairfield.
The Huskies dropped the first two games, but rallied in game three for a 30-27 win. NU fell behind 8-1 in game four, but grabbed the momentum by coming all the way back to tie it at 29. Back-to-back kills by Laurie Brands put the game and match away for the Stags, however.
It was a tight first game with the teams trading points until a 6-1 Fairfield run turned a close 24-22 game into a 30-23 win. The Huskies hit just .040 in the second game, but still got out to a 9-5 edge. Fairfield came back to tie it at 14 and the game was later tied at 25. That's when Brands led the way again, recording a pair of kills as Fairfield ended the game with a 5-1 surge for a 30-26 win.
NU controlled the fourth game, jumping to a 16-8 lead. The Stags cut it to two, 23-21, but got no closer as Erin Spangler and Rebecca Holland each had a pair of kills as the Huskies closed out the game by a score of 30-27.
Spangler led the Huskies with 18 kills and hit .371. Fellow senior Jennifer Endres also had a strong performance, hitting .346 with 12 kills.
