"Our team played a great game," said NU coach Cheryl Murtagh. "We stepped it up and competed at the highest level against the third-ranked team in the country who are the defending national champions."

Michigan's Stephanie Johnson ended the game eight minutes into the extra session, scoring off the Wolverines' second penalty corner attempt of overtime. Johnson faked a shot from the top of the circle and rolled to her left, where she was fed by freshman midfielder Lori Hillman. Johnson directed the shot to the right side of the cage, out of the reach of Northeastern goalkeeper Emily Roy.

Junior Sara Webber gave Northeastern a 1-0 lead, deflecting Fior Arrindell's shot off a corner into the net with 20 minutes left in the game.

With the clock under a minute, Michigan received a free hit just outside the circle. Sophomore midfielder Katy Moyneur fed the ball to the left side of the circle, where Blake fired a rising shot that went off a Huskies' defender and over Roy to tie the game with 20 seconds left.

The Huskies almost pulled the game out in overtime, but couldn't capitalize on man-advantage opportunity, or two penalty corners.

"It was an incredible effort from all our players," said Murtagh. "We came within 20 seconds of defeating the third-ranked team. This game gives us confidence for the rest of the season. We know we can play with anyone in the country."
