The Northeastern volleyball team lost its home opener to Rutgers 3-0 on Friday night at Solomon Court. NU has now dropped five straight matches and falls to 4-10 on the season, while Rutgers improves to 10-4.
The Huskies struggled all night with their attacking as they hit .044 for the match, compared to Rutgers' hitting percentage of .282. America East's leader in hitting percentage, NU's Larissa Adomat, hit an uncharacteristic .133 for the match, while the Scarlet Knights were paced by Shayla Bush's .348 hitting percentage.
Offensively, Erin Spangler was the only Husky in double-digit kills with 10. Kristin Ursillo had 22 assists, but did manage nine digs. Libero Kelly Cognac paced NU defensively with 11 digs.
The Scarlet Knights offense was run by Pualani Tuyay, who tallied 43 assists with seven digs, five block assists and three kills. Bush led all players with 20 kills, while Sandra Nunner added 16 for Rutgers.
NU head coach Ken Nichols remains stuck on 99 career wins as the Huskies were unable to pull out the victory over the Scarlet Knights. In his third season at NU, Nichols has a career mark of 99-77 with a 46-37 record on Huntington Avenue and a 53-40 record in three seasons at Providence.
Next up for Northeastern is St. Peter's on Sunday at 12 p.m. also at Solomon Court.
