After dropping game one in extra points, the Northeastern University volleyball rallied to win three straight games and defeat UNC Wilmington on the road 3-1 on Friday night. The Huskies dominated after the losing game one 31-29, winning 30-12, 30-21 and 30-14 in the next three games as NU out hit the Seahawks .305 to .057 in the match. Three Huskies posted double-doubles led by Junior hitter Kira Batura who put up her third consecutive double-double and her sixth of the season as she tallied 16 kills on .424 attacking with 23 digs. Senior co-captain and middle hitter Ashley Reeves posted match-highs with 18 kills and a .667 hitting percentage to lead NU's offense.
Along with Batura, freshman setter Jessica Tkachuk and sophomore outside hitter Brianna Seitz added double-doubles to an all around solid performance by the entire NU line up. Tkachuk registered 22 assists and 11 digs while Seitz contributed a match-high 18 kills on .356 hitting with 15 digs. The Huskies totaled 75 kills to the Seahawks' 38 who compiled 33 fewer digs than NU.
Defensively, NU played another solid match at the net out blocking UNCW 11-to-four led by senior co-captain and outside hitter Whitney Turner, and sophomore middle hitter Brittany Eukovich. Turner came up with four block assists while Eukovich had five block assists with a solo block. Leah Neubeck recorded a match-high 28 digs to solidify the Huskies' back row defense.
NU continues a three-match road trip at Georgia State on Sun., Oct. 8 at 2 p.m.
