The Huskies let a 2-0 lead slip away, but held on in game five to win the match 3-2 (30-27, 30-18, 24-30, 26-30, 15-12). Four Huskies had double-figures in kills, led by Lauren DeTurk's game high 20, while Jessica Tkachuk had 38 assists. The win is Northeastern's 11th in 14 matches, and improves the Huskies' record to 9-3 in the CAA, and 17-12 overall. The Huskies return to action next Friday at George Mason in Fairfax, Va.
After honoring captain Kira Batura before the match, the Huskies promptly took the first two games. After winning game one, Northeastern played a stellar game two, hitting .368. The Huskies trailed 13-8, but ripped off a whopping 14 points in a row, eight of which were Northeastern kills. The run gave the Huskies a 22-13 lead, which eventually led to Northeastern taking the game.
In game three, it was Georgia State's turn to rally. Trailing 12-9, the Panthers used a 16-4 run to take a 25-16 lead, their largest of the game.
In game four, the Huskies led by as much as 15-10, but the Panthers used a 10-5 run to tie the game at 20. Northeastern went on to take a 26-24 lead, but the Panthers scored six of the game's final eight points to win 30-26 and force a game five.
In the fifth game, Northeastern jumped out ahead 9-5, but Georgia State rallied again, tying the score at 11. A kill by Sarah Stein gave NU a 12-11 lead, and an attack error by the Panthers gave the Huskies a two point lead. After a service error by NU made the score 13-12, the Huskies got back-to-back kills from Brianna Seitz and DeTurk to close out the match.
Britney Brown with 15, Caitlin Tittl with 12, and Seitz with a season high 13 kills were the other Huskies to record double-digits. Leah Neubeck paced the Husky defense with 30 digs.
