The University of Connecticut outlasted the Huskies in five games Wednesday night, 3-2 (22-30, 24-30, 30-21, 30-26, 13-15) in Storrs, Conn. Four different Huskies, led by Lauren DeTurk's 21, had double digit kills. The win is Uconn's eighth in nine matches this season. Northeastern returns to action Friday when they take on Brown University at the Albany Classic in Albany, N.Y.
Much like last Saturday's match against Belmont, Northeastern dropped the first two games, then hung tough and fought their way back into match only to lose in the decisive fifth game. The Huskies hit .459 in the third game, their highest percentage of the match, to take the third game. DeTurk hit .364 in the game (6-11), while freshman Britney Brown hit .714 (5-7).
In game four, the Huskies used five kills from Sarah Stein to even the match at two games a piece. In the fifth game, Northeastern led 13-12 after a kill from Brown, but the hosts took three straight points to take the game and match.
Aside from DeTurk, Kira Batura, Brown, and Caitlin Tittl were the other Huskies to reach double figures in kills. Brown led the way in assists with 36, while Jessica Tkachuk had 22. Leah Neubeck recorded 17 digs, the sixth time this season she's had at least 17 digs in a match.
