The Huskies remained unbeaten at home Tuesday night, sweeping Rhode Island 3-0 (30-21, 30-22, 30-26) in a non-conference match at Solomon Court. Lauren DeTurk led a balanced Northeastern attack with 12 kills, while CAA Rookie of the Week Britney Brown had a match high 22 assists. The Huskies return to action Saturday when they take on Hofstra University at Solomon Court. Game time is 1 p.m.
Sarah Stein and DeTurk helped the Huskies get off to a fast start in game one. DeTurk led the way with seven kills and a .286 hitting percentage (7-14), while Stein hit .429 (3-7). With the score tied at 11, an error by Rhode Island set the Huskies off on a 13-3 run, giving the home side a 24-14 lead, their biggest of the match.
In game two, Northeastern hit .286 as a team, while Kira Batura had a game high four kills and a .500 hitting percentage (4-8).
In game three, Northeastern led 26-21, but four straight points by the Rams brought the visitors to within 26-25. However a kill from Anna Broscheit and a Rhode Island error gave the Huskies a two point, 28-26 lead. Back-to-back errors from Rhode Island closed out the game and match for the Huskies.
DeTurk also recorded a match high 19 digs, while Caitlin Tittl had a match high five block assists.
