The Huskies dropped a hard fought and close match to the CAA's Preseason No. 1 team Hofstra on Saturday afternoon, losing a 3-1 (24-30, 30-21, 32-34, 23-30) decision to the Pride at Solomon Court. Lauren DeTurk led all players with 23 kills, while Kira Batura had 14. The match was the CAA opener for both squads. The Huskies return to the court tomorrow as they travel to Harvard.
After Hofstra took the opening game, Northeastern had an impressive second game, hitting .400 as a team and recording 20 total kills and making just four errors. Northeastern scored the first seven points of the game and nine of the first 10 to take a 9-1 lead. Staked such a large lead, the Huskies didn't let up and took the second game 30-21. DeTurk recorded 11 kills in this game.
Game three was back and forth with the biggest lead only being two points. Hofstra led 29-27, but a kill by Kira Batura and an attack error by Hofstra tied the score. With the score tied at 32-32, a kill by Hofstra's Lauren Engle, followed by an attack error by Northeastern gave the Pride the match.
In game four, Hofstra only hit .200, but were helped out by 11 Northeastern errors en route to taking the final game and the match.
Britney Brown and Jessica Tkachuk each had 25 assists for the Huskies, while Leah Neubeck led the way with 24 digs.
