The Huskies defeated Georgia State 3-2 (30-24, 25-30, 30-25, 28-30, 15-10) in a CAA match-up Friday night in Atlanta, Ga. Lauren DeTurk and Kira Batura both had impressive games with 21 and 18 kills respectively. Jessica Tkachuk led the way with 30 assists. Northeastern's CAA record improves to 1-1. The Huskies return to action Sunday afternoon at UNC Wilmington at 1 p.m.
Northeastern took a close game one in which DeTurk delivered 7 kills, and Kira Batura had five kills and a .444 hitting percentage (5-9). The Huskies jumped out to a 7-2 lead, but Georgia State was able to climb to within 13-10. However, a kill by Batura set off a 4-0 NU run to give the Huskies a 17-10 advantage, one that was too much for Georgia State to overcome.
After dropping the second game, Northeastern rallied to take game three, going up 2-1. Game four was a back-and-forth affair, with Northeastern leading 6-2 after a kill by Caitlin Tittl, but Georgia State used an 11-6 run to take a 13-12 lead. Northeastern then scored five of the game's next seven points, highlighted by a Britney Brown ace to take a 17-14 lead. After more back-and-forth play brought the score to 28-28, Georgia State took the final two points to take the game.
Game five was tied 7-7, but a kill by DeTurk began a streak of six straight Husky points that gave the visitors a 13-7 lead. With the score 14-10, an ace by Batura gave the Huskies the game and match.
