Sophomore Britney Brown recorded her eighth double-double of the season (10 kills, 17 assist) to lift the Huskies past George Mason, 3-0 Friday night at Solomon Court.
The close 25-18, 25-21, 25-20 victory improved Northeastern to 14-9 overall recorded and a CAA leading record of 8-1.
Captain Lauren DeTurk added a match-high 15 kills on a .542 hit percentage and eight digs. Jessica Tkachuck came a dig shy of a double-double posting 21 assist and nine digs while junior Leah Neubeck chipped in with a match-high 15 digs.
Brianna Seitz started things off for the Huskies guiding to an early lead. But George Mason would soon bounce back and tie the set at 7 all. The untamed Huskies fought back and made runs midway through the set to at a 14-10 advantage. The Patriots tried to diminish Northeastern's lead, but the powerful swings of Britney Brown prevented GMU of a late comeback as the Huskies cruised to an 25-18 win.
George Mason's Laura Turner got the Patriots rolling in the second set, starting the set off with two serve aces. The Huskies, led by the attacks of Lauren DeTurk, climbed back to tie the set at 5-5. With Leah Neubeck serving, NU went on a 7-0 run taking a 12-6 lead forcing a Patriot timeout. George Mason's timeout had no prevail, as the Huskies kept attacking the ball at the Patriots, ultimately winning the second set.
The third, and highly competitive, set consisted of runs, ties, and several lead changes. The Patriots pushing for a fourth set, came out fierce. George Mason had a three-point lead in the beginning of the set. NU would soon tie the set at 10 all. The Patriots battled back taking a 16-15 lead. But the great serves of Leah Neubeck, guided the Huskies to a 20-17 lead. George Mason was unable to come back, allowing the Huskies the victory.
Northeastern steps back onto Solomon Court Sunday Nov. 2, when it takes on the James Madison Dukes at 1 p.m.
