Huskies fare well against New England's elite

The Northeastern men's cross country team put forth a strong showing at Saturday's New England Cross Country Championship, turning in a fifth-place performance. The Huskies outlegged 42 other teams in the 8K challenge at Franklin Park in Boston.

Rookie sensation Eric Jenkins once again directed Northeastern's efforts, claiming 13th, individually, in a field of 318. The Portsmouth, N.H. native has led NU's contingent in every race he's entered this season. Jenkins posted a mark of 24:58 in his first New England Championship.

Classmate Brian Doyle continued his impressive freshman campaign with a 21st-place finish of 25:17. Veteran Teddy Vrountas finished a few seconds behind his teammate at a clip of 25:22 for 31st, overall.

Sophomore Daniel Grant kicked out a mark of 25:38 for 46th while senior James Pellerano turned in an 85th-place time of 26:03. Sophomore John Jantz crossed in 26:14 for 105th while newcomer Mike MacKenzie rounded on NU's efforts with a time of 27:16 (214th).

Dartmouth took home the title with a collective time of 2:06.18. Northeastern was only one minute behind and continues to build momentum heading into the NCAA Regional Championship at Hammonnaset Park (Madison, Conn.) on Nov. 13.
