Les Williams tossed eight innings and allowed just one hit to pick up his second win of the season, a 10-0 mashing of Bryant on Friday afternoon at a sun-drenched Friedman Diamond. Ryan Maguire's diving stop and strong throw in the second inning wasn't enough to beat Bryant's Dylan Stone, resulting in the sole hit for the Bulldogs on the afternoon.

The Huskies' offense was paced by senior Tony DiCesare, who was 4-for-5 on the day with two runs and three RBI. DiCesare tallied two singles, a double and a triple on the day, falling a home run short of the cycle.

The rest of Northeastern's nine hits came from sophomore Matt Miller (3-for-5, 2 runs) and freshman Alan Pastyrnak (2-for-3, 3 runs, 2 RBI).

Senior Frank Compagnone contributed with a walk, a run scored and a run driven in. Redshirt freshman John Puttress (run, RBI) and Maguire (run) both drew two walks on the day.

Williams put the Bulldogs down in order in the top of the first and was rewarded by his offense with a three-run cushion. DiCesare whacked a triple down the right field line that scored Miller (leadoff single) and Pastyrnak (walk), and DiCesare later scored on a wild pitch.

Williams, working methodically by pounding fastballs and catching Bryant batters off guard with change-ups and sliders, retired the side in order in four of his eight innings.

The Huskies added on in the third inning, posting three runs on a double from Pastyrnak and one of DiCesare's singles.

With a 6-0 lead after three, Williams cruised through the Bulldog lineup without allowing a runner past second base.

Northeastern piled four more runs on in the sixth inning with hits coming from DiCesare, Pastyrnak and Miller.

Dan Zehr pitched a flawless ninth inning, sealing the 10-0 win for the Huskies.

Brendan Stokes was hit by a pitch twice, including a bases-loaded peg in the third.

The Huskies play Bryant tomorrow in Smithfield, R.I. in game two of this three-game set. Game three will be back in Brookline at Friedman diamond, Sunday at 1 p.m. Check back on GoNU.com for live stats and other information.
