The Huskies outlasted a 45-minute rain delay and unfavorable weather throughout the game, but couldn't handle the George Mason offense in a 9-5 loss at Friedman Diamond. The Huskies out-hit the Patriots by a 10-7 margin, but the Patriots scored in bunches, sending NU to the game one loss.

Frank Compagnone logged two hits apiece to lead the Huskies' offense. Starter
Les Williams tossed six innings and allowed just four hits.
Matt Miller ripped a single to right field in the ninth inning to extend his hit streak to seven games.
Tony DiCesare added a double and a run scored, and
Alan Pastyrnak hit a two-RBI single.
Northeastern took an early 1-0 lead, stringing together two singles and a botched play from George Mason to jump out of the gate.
Les Williams dealt two scoreless innings before Mason's bats came alive, tacking on three in the third inning.
The Huskies brought the game back to 3-2 in the bottom of the third frame. Gustafson singled, moved to second on an error, stole third and came home on a ground ball from Compagnone, just one of his three RBI on the day.
Williams handled the Patriots for two more innings, letting the Husky offense get the score tied back at 3-3 in the bottom of the fifth. DiCesare stretched a line drive to center field into a double, and he came home to score on Compagnone's ensuing single to right field.
Mason jumped all over Williams in the sixth, tagging him for four runs and forcing the Huskies to go to the bullpen for the last three innings.
Down 7-3, the Huskies brought the game back to 7-5 in the bottom of the sixth thanks to three freshmen.
Jon Leroux was hit by a pitch to lead off the inning, and he moved to third when Gillis roped a double down the right field line. Leroux and Gillis both scampered home when fellow frosh Pastyrnak rapped a single up the middle.
Gillis' run would be the last for NU, however, as the Huskies were silenced by the George Mason bullpen over the last three innings. The Patriots tacked on two insurance runs in the eighth to gain the final margin.
Williams allowed only one earned run in his six innings, taking his second loss of the season.
Dan Zehr tossed three innings of relief, giving up just three hits.
Pastyrnak stole second base, giving him eight steals in 10 tries.
The Huskies and Patriots are scheduled to play again tomorrow at 12 p.m. noon tomorrow in game two of the three game series. Senior LHP
