The Northeastern volleyball team came away victorious in a non-conference match, topping Fairfield 3-0 (30-27, 30-27, 30-28) on Sunday, Oct. 9 in Fairfield, Conn. The Huskies got 16 kills from Brandie Genibrel and 13 from Whitney Turner, as the visitors outhit their counterparts .215 to .169 in the match. NU moves to 8-9 on the season, while Fairfield is now 9-11.

Each of the three games were tightly-contested affairs, but game one may have been the closest competition. The two teams found themselves tied on seven occasions toward the end of the frame, including a 24-all deadlock. After that, the two teams alternated the next six points for a 27-27 tie, but NU rallied for three straight points to take the frame.

Game two ended in similar fashion, with the two teams once again knotted at 27. This time, kills by Genibrel and Ashley Reeves, coupled with a Jazmin Pa'akaula attack error gave NU the 30-27 victory, despite the face that Fairfield outhit the Huskies .262 to .250.

In game three, the Huskies jumped out to a 5-0 lead and never trailed, but it was no easy task as NU took a 30-28 victory. NU's lead of five was its largest of the frame, and the Stags fought back to a tie at 22 aside. NU held off the home squad despite not holding a lead of more than two for the remainder of the match. The Huskies finished off Fairfield with a Turner kill at 30-28.

Turner made just one error for NU offensively, hitting a team-best .462. NU received 26 assists from Chelsea Carroll and 20 from Ivana Pavlisin, while Kira Batura registered three aces. Batura (12), Turner (11) and Genibrel (10) each posted double-digit digs, while Larissa Adomat made four blocks.

For the Stags, Lindsey Lee posted 13 kills and Kelly Oliver made 11, hitting .588 for the match. Brandi Higa led all players with 35 assists, and added 14 digs as four Fairfield players posted double-digit digs. Alex Fox came away with a match-high five blocks.

The Huskies are back in action Tuesday night for their final non-conference match of the season against Connecticut. Game time is slated for 7 p.m. in Storrs, Conn.
