Northeastern is 9-0 all-time against the Bobcats, the most recent win coming on the road last year, 3-1. The Huskies have a long history with the Terriers, dating back to 1978. Northeastern is 25-18-0 all-time against BU, including a 4-3 home triumph last year.
SCOUTING THE HUSKIES
Northeastern hosted its first two home contests of the season last weekend. The Huskies lost a heartbreaker to Massachusetts, 2-1, on Friday, but earned their first win of the season on Sunday with a 3-2 victory over Maine.
Northeastern led early against UMass, as sophomore forward
Crystal Poland notched her first goal of the season 12:01 into the game. However, UMass responded with goals in both halves to escape with the win.
On Sunday, the Huskies once again scored early, with junior midfielder
Kaela Barker tallying her second goal of the season just 1:25 into the contest. Maine tied the score before freshman
Lindsay Bennett potted her first collegiate goal to make it 2-1. In the second half, Maine tied the game before Poland scored the game-winner at the 54:32 mark to send the Sweeney Field faithful home happy.
NOTES
•
Lindsay Bennett was named CAA Rookie of the Week on Tuesday for her strong performance against Maine on Sept. 5. Bennett's first collegiate goal helped the Huskies earn their first win of the season. Bennett is the first Husky to receive a league-wide honor in the 2010 regular season.
• This will be the fourth straight year that the Huskies face Quinnipiac and BU in back-to-back games. Northeastern has not lost to either opponent in each of the last two seasons.
• BU is the second ranked opponent Northeastern will face this season. The Huskies previously lost to then-No. 8 Syracuse, 4-1, on Aug. 29.
SCOUTING THE BOBCATS
Quinnipiac enters Friday's game at 1-2. The Bobcats defeated Lehigh, 4-1, on Aug. 29 to begin their season with a win for the first time since 2005. Two losses followed, however, as then-No. 6 Boston College beat the Bobcats, 5-1, on Sept. 3 before Quinnipiac fell to Yale, 4-3, on Sept. 5.
Junior forward Kaitlyn Notarianni, who has three goals for six points, leads the Bobcats offensively. Behind her is a trio of players with four points. Senior co-captain Katie Van Nostrand has two goals, sophomore forward Kristin Engelke has a goal and two assists, and freshman forward Amanda Danziger leads all rookies on the squad with a goal and two assists.
The Bobcats have had two goaltenders see time between the pipes this season. Junior Nicole Lewis started the first two games and has played in all three games. She is 1-1 with a 2.51 goals against average. Senior Amanda DeLouise has played in two games this year, but she got her first start of the year against Yale on Sunday. She is 0-1 with a 4.26 goals against average.
SCOUTING THE TERRIERS
BU enters the weekend 4-0, which is its best start since 1987. The Terriers will face No. 7 Boston College on Friday before hosting Northeastern on Sunday. If the Terriers defeat BC, they will be 5-0 for the first time in program history.
Last Sunday, BU defeated UMass, 2-1, in its first home contest of the season. Senior Allie Dolce and sophomore Jacinda McLeod scored for the Terriers. The day before, Dolce scored again to help BU defeat Providence, 3-0. For her efforts, Dolce was named America East Player of the Week.
Leading the Terriers on offense is junior forward Andrea Greene, who has 10 points on four goals and two assists. Right behind her is Dolce, with three goals and three assists for nine points.
BU likely will field two goaltenders on Sunday as they've done all season. Senior Amanda Smith has started all four games, while sophomore Julie Collins has replaced her at halftime. Both goalies have given up just one goal and have each posted a 0.50 goals against average. Collins has seen the most work, making nine saves for a .900 save percentage. Smith has made just one save.
