2010 Performance List
A pair of rookies made their impressions felt as the Northeastern men's cross country team dominated the field at the Bryant Invitational (5K) on Friday, claiming the top five positions in the season opener.
Freshmen
Eric Jenkins and
Brian Doyle turned in first and second-place performances, respectively, as the Portsmouth, N.H. native won his first collegiate race at a clip of 15:58.80. His new classmate finished right on his heels for second in 16:02.01.
"It was great to see the freshmen lead the way," distance coach Renny Waldron said. "We don't put much stock into the first race, especially when it's a 5k, but certainly we liked what we saw out there today. For Eric and Brian, it was a great way to start their Northeastern careers."
Veteran
Teddy Vrountas demonstrated his abilities with a third-place mark of 16:10:11 while sophomore
Daniel Grant looped the 5K run in 16:27.97 for fourth place. Third-year harrier
Nick Ryan rounded out the Huskies' top-five stranglehold with a fifth-place mark of 16:32.22.
Senior
James Pellerano closed out his first race of the year in 16:39.72 for 10th while second-year runner
John Jantz claimed 15th at a rate of 17:00.53. Sophomore
Chris Mentas turned in a 17th-place effort of 17:11.33 while senior
Joe Siravo finished 21st with a mark of 17:19.03.
Senior
Kyle Audet and sophomore
Steve Francis closed out Northeastern's superior showing with times of 17:43.01 and 17:52.03, in that order, for 35th and 42nd.
Northeastern looks to continue its momentum on its home track of Franklin Park on Saturday, Sept. 11 at 2 p.m. Boston College will host the Huskies' second meet of the season.
