Despite crisp temperatures and winter gloves still being used, the Northeastern men's track & field team successfully hosted its annual Husky Spring Open on Saturday, March 19 in Dedham, Mass.
The Huskies posted three victories, four second-place finishes and the same number of third-place showings in the home opener at Solomon Outdoor Track. Northeastern flexed its muscle in the field, winning the long jump, triple jump and hammer throw.
Brendan Bergson took top honors in the long jump, clearing 6.60m (21'8) for his first victory on the year. Senior
Brian Racca's combination of 14.63m (48'0) was best in the field of 21 while rookie
James Hall threw for 54.77m (179'8) to best the deep field of 39 in the hammer throw.
Northeastern's throwing contingent closed out strong as senior
Patrick Jablonski finished third in the shot put with a toss of 14.96m (49'1). Rookie John White came in fifth with a throw of 13.99m (45'10.75) while classmate
Kevin Rosenberg came in one spot behind with a measure of 13.94m (45'9) for sixth place.
Jablonski captured second place in the discus to close out Saturday's events, clearing 45.46m (149'2). Freshman
Conor Ebbs turned in a fifth-place heave of 40.14m (131'8).
In the javelin throw,
Christopher Reider pitched for third place with a mark of 57.67m (189'2), besting 39 other competitors in the field.
Sophomore
Tejorn Davis cleaned up the triple jump with a third-place combination of 13.19m (43'3.25). Finishing up the hammer throw, senior
Alex Iannetta's throw of 53.47m (176'4) was good for second while rookie
Max Milder posted a fourth-place mark of 52.06m (170'10).
Veteran
Adrian Li made his return to Solomon Outdoor Track with a second-place leap of 1.93m (6'4) in the high jump while Davis cleared 1.83m (6'0) for fourth.
Senior
Brian Daly tied for second in the pole vault's field of 13 with a clearance of 4.03m (13'3).
On the track, rookie
Andrew Snyder picked up another third-place finish for the Huskies with two loops around the track in 2:01.46 in the 800-meter run. Sophomore
Anthony Gentles finished 10th (2:03.58).
Newcomer
Dylan Lucas earned fourth in the 110-meter hurdles with a time of 16.84 while
Luke Malley crossed in 4:13.09 for seventh place in the 1,500-meter run. Senior
Kyle Audet finished in 10th with a time of 4:19.16 while freshman Jeffrey Sun took 13th at a clip of 4:21.78.
Freshman
Michael MacKenzie was NU's representative in the distance portion, finishing 10th in the 5,000-meter run, coming in at 16:06.11.
The Huskies head for warmer climates next weekend to partake in the two-day Florida State Relays on March 25-26 in Tallahasse, Fla.
