Box Score

DURHAM, N.H. – For the second consecutive game, Northeastern was forced into an overtime period, but this time the seventh-ranked Huskies couldn't escape with a win. New Hampshire defeated NU, 3-2, in a double overtime thriller on Sunday afternoon at Memorial Field in Durham. Freshman Deirdre Duke scored a career-high two goals, but it was not enough for the Huskies in the losing effort. Senior goalkeeper Lizzie Priest made five saves on the day for the Red and Black.

Once again, Northeastern found itself in a 1-0 hole early when UNH's Hannah Richard netted the games first score at 6:23. But a Deirdre Duke goal at 30:48 evened the playing field at 1-1 just before the intermission. Thirteen minutes into the second period, Duke struck again, recording her fifth goal of the season to give the Huskies a 2-1 lead.

Then at the 64:17 mark, UNH got on the board once more with a goal from Megan Bozek, tying the game at 2-2 with just a shade under six minutes left in regulation. The first overtime provided both teams with their share of chances, but neither squad could capitalize on any given opportunity, necessitating a second overtime stanza.

Just two-and-a-half minutes later, the Wildcats' Meg Flatley sealed the upset with her sixth goal of the season. The loss moves the Huskies to 6-1 after a seven-game season-opening road swing. NU returns to the greater Boston area next weekend with the team's first set of home games. The Huskies battle William & Mary at 7 p.m. on Friday in Cambridge, Mass., (Harvard's home field) before a much-anticipated date with the reigning CAA champions, Old Dominion, at 1 p.m. on Sunday in Chestnut Hill, Mass. (Boston College's home field).

Notes:
• The loss was Northeastern's first of the season and marked the first time in 2012 that senior Crystal Poland was held without a point (three shots on goal).
• Junior Lindsay Bennett tied a career-high with two shots on goal.
• NU held a 15-9 shot advantage, while UNH held a 7-5 save advantage.
