BOSTON -- The Northeastern women's volleyball team continued its winning ways at Solomon Court Friday night, defeating the UNCW Seahawks, 3-1 (25-17, 23-25, 25-21, 25-14).

The Huskies (13-3, 2-0 CAA) won their thirteenth straight home game behind double-doubles from junior Kelly Bacon (19 kills, 10 digs), junior Janelle Tucker (15 kills, 11 digs) and sophomore Jillian Briner (11 kills, 23 assists). Sophomore Natalia Skiba led the team with 18 digs, surpassing 300 digs on the season. Junior Ina Kamenova had a season-high 34 assists, and Northeastern also got ten kills apiece from senior Nicole Bishop and junior Nichole Kurz.

As a whole, the Huskies hit for .358 on this night. That figure is the Huskies' best hitting percentage of the season.

The Seahawks (7-10, 0-2 CAA) were led by Christi Laite's 15 kills in the match. Natalie Lahaie did the majority of the setting for UNCW, with 36 of the team's 41 assists. Libero Haley Collins led the Seahawks with 15 kills in the match, and McKenzie Keightley added six total blocks.

The first set went back-and-forth to begin, with the two teams finding themselves tied at 10-10 out of the chute. UNCW stonewalled Northeastern's efforts with numerous blocks in the opening frame, notching three within their first ten points and four overall in the set. The Huskies used a 6-0 run to pull ahead 21-14, and a Bacon kill clinched the set for NU, 25-17.

Kurz had six kills in the opening frame, and Briner added five for the Huskies, who got 19 of their 25 points in the first set on kills. Kamenova had ten assists in the set, and Northeastern had a .400 team attacking percentage. Skiba and Tucker each had four digs in the set, and the Huskies had 15 as a team.

The second set saw UNCW steadily hold the lead to start the frame, pushing the difference to five at 16-11. Back-to-back kills by Bacon started a 4-0 run to pull NU within one at 16-15. The Seahawks led 21-18, but the Huskies tied the set at 22-22 on a Bacon kill. UNCW broke a 23-23 tie with a Keightley kill and Northeastern attacking error to win the second set, 25-23.

Bacon led the Huskies with seven kills in the set, while Kamenova added eight assists and Briner chipped in seven helpers. UNCW's Lahaie had 13 assists in the second frame, and Fitzgerald led the Seahwaks with five second-set kills.

Northeastern took the first four points of the third set, but UNCW came back to tie the score 5-5, and the two teams remained close throughout the frame. The Seahawks called a timeout as the Huskies claimed a 21-19 lead, but they could not regain momentum as NU won the third set 25-21. Bacon led Northeastern with five kills in the third set, and Tucker added four. Kamenova had eight assists in the frame, while Briner had six.

The fourth set was all Northeastern, who jumped out to a 16-8 lead and didn't look back, taking the set 25-14. Tucker had five kills in the final frame, including the match-winning point that came with an assist from Briner.

The Huskies improved to 13-0 all-time against the Seahawks, with all of those matches coming in CAA play. Northeastern returns to action on Sunday at 1 p.m., as they take on William & Mary at Solomon Court.
