BOSTON --Â The Northeastern field hockey team returns home on Sunday afternoon to host crosstown rival Boston University at 2 p.m. on Dedham Field. For Northeastern students interested in attending the game, shuttle buses will depart from Chicken Lou's one hour, and 30 minutes prior to the start of the game, and return to campus following the game.
Supporting the cause
In support of Breast Cancer Awareness Month, Northeastern will be hosting a pink game on Sunday.
Donation tables will be set up throughout the facility that will go to the National Breast Cancer Foundation to support research for a cure. The Huskies are hoping to raise $2,013 in honor of the year 2013.
Local youth teams will also be attending the game, and Northeastern will hold an autograph session following the game.
Last time out
Northeastern (5-8) received goals from
Emmy Zweserijn and
Lindsay Bennett, but a last minute goal from Maine downed the Huskies in a back and forth battle on Sunday afternoon, 3-2.
NU was held to five shots during the contest, while the Black Bears generated 11. Freshman
Becky Garner made four stops for Northeastern, which earned three corner opportunities to Maine's nine.
Garner earns CAA accolades
One week after
Natalie Stewart became the first Husky to earn weekly honors this season, freshman goalkeeper
Becky Garner made it two straight for NU on Tuesday when she was named the CAA Rookie of the Week.
Garner collected her first collegiate shutout on Friday night against No. 19 Drexel, backstopping the Huskies to a 1-0 win over their league rivals. Garner made seven games during the contest before making another four stops at Maine on Sunday.
The Somerset, England native has started all 13 games this season for the Huskies, posting a 2.20 goals against average and .705 save percentage. Garner is also fourth in the league with 67 saves.
Zweserijn among the league's best
Freshman
Emmy Zweserijn is off to a strong start to her career with the Huskies, leading the team with 17 points (seven goals, three assists) in her first 13 collegiate games. The Ziest, Netherlands native has tallied a point in seven of her 13 games this season, including a four-game point streak from Aug. 30 to Sept. 13. Zweserijn is among the league leaders in both goals and points this season, and is also 83rd in the nation with 1.31 points per game.
Murtagh collects No. 350 at NU
NU's 5-0 win against Dartmouth on Sept. 13 marked a milestone in the illustrious career of head coach
Cheryl Murtagh, who secured her 350th career victory at Northeastern. Murtagh is 369-213-13 in 28-plus seasons as a collegiate head coach, including a 352-198-10 mark on Huntington Ave. Murtagh, who was inducted into the NFHCA Hall of Fame last season, began the 2013 campaign ranked eighth in the nation in career victories among active Division I head coaches.
Rookies off to a hot start
After the departure of its top two scorers from last season, including two-time All-American
Crystal Poland, Northeastern welcomes 11 freshmen to the 2013 squad. The group, made up of five forwards, three midfielders, two back and one goalkeeper is tied with Lock Haven, Michigan State and Sacred Heart for the most true freshmen in the nation.

Through 13 games this season, the Huskies have recorded five defensive saves, which is tied for second in the conference and 13th in the nation. Freshman

Zoe Kale have all recorded one.
Scouting the Terriers
The BU Terriers are 8-5 this season, coming off a 2-0 win against Bucknell on Saturday. BU is 2-0 against opponents from the CAA this season, having defeated Delaware and Hofstra earlier in the season. Northeastern holds an all-time record of 25-18 against its crosstown rival. The Terriers took a 4-3 win in double overtime at Harvard on Oct. 12, 2012, snapping a streak of four consecutive victories by the Huskies.
Leading the way for the Terriers is freshman forward Amanda Cassera. She has scored seven goals for 14 points this season and is the reigning Patriot League Rookie of the Week. Sophomore midfielder/forward Sofi Laurito is not far behind with five goals for 10 points, and senior midfielder/back Anne Fruitema also has 10 points by way of four goals and two assists.
Valentina Cerda Eimbcke has compiled a record of 8-5 in goal while playing all 939:11 for the Terriers this season. The Chilean junior holds a 1.49 goals against average and a .767 save percentage over that span, and has picked up two shutouts along the way.
The road ahead
Northeastern resumes conference play next week when the Huskies travel to Towson for a 6 p.m. game on Friday. Towson is 1-13 on the season, including an 0-3 mark in CAA play. The Huskies are also 13-3 all-time against the Tigers
