SEATTLE --
Northeastern track & field standout Eric Jenkins added his name to another Husky record on Saturday. The junior from Portsmouth, N.H. broke a 26-year school record in the 3000-meter run, clocking in with a time of 7:50.44 at the Husky Classic in Seattle.

Jenkins destroyed the previous NU record of 8:14.01, set by Tim Gannon during the 1986-87 season. Jenkins' mark is currently the third fastest collegiate time in the nation this season, and was good for an IC4A and New England qualifying mark.

Jenkins also owns the school record in the mile run, which he set earlier this season at the Terrier Invitational (3:58.11) in a race against Olympic silver medalist Galen Rupp. His mile time is the third fastest time in the nation, as well.

Jenkins ran against four student-athletes who competed in the event at the 2012 NCAA Indoor Track & Field Championships, topping three of them. NC State's Ryan Hill won the section with a time of 7:49.20. Hill also won the event, while Jenkins and Northern Arizona's Diego Estrada tied for second.

Freshman Wesley Gallagher, running in the mile, took second in his heat with a time of 4:09.55, good for 28th overall. His time topped his personal best by 0.21 seconds and qualified for an IC4A and New England qualifying time.

The Huskies will be back in action in two weeks when Northeastern competes in the New England Championships.
