Last time out
Goals from
Lindsay Bennett and
Caroline Judge proved to be the difference on Sunday as Northeastern (2-1) picked up a road victory at Providence (2-2), 2-1.
Both goals came in the first half, including Judge's eventual game-winner with less than a minute left in the opening 35 minutes. Freshman goalkeeper
Becky Garner got the start in goal for the third time this season, making three saves.
Murtagh going for No. 350 at NU
Cheryl Murtagh, currently in her 26th season at the helm of the Huskies, is one victory away from 350 at Northeastern. Murtagh is 366-206-13 in 28-plus seasons as a collegiate head coach, including a 349-191-10 mark on Huntington Avenue.
Murtagh, who was inducted into the NFHCA Hall of Fame last season, began the 2013 campaign ranked eighth in the nation in career victories among active Division I head coaches.
Garner-ing attention
Freshmen goalkeeper
Becky Garner has earned the start in the cage in all three of Northeastern's matches so far this season. The Somerset, England native is 37th in the nation with a goals against average of 1.93, while her 5.0 saves per game is 34th in the country.
Garner is also in the top-five among CAA goalkeepers in those categories, and is tied for third in the league with a .714 save percentage.
Rookies off to a hot start
After the departure of its top two scorers from last season, including two-time All-American
Crystal Poland, Northeastern welcomes 11 freshmen to the 2013 squad. The group, made up of five forwards, three midfielders, two back and one goalkeeper is tied with Lock Haven, Michigan State and Sacred Heart for the most true freshmen in the nation.
Emmy Zweserijn leads the team through three games with five points (two goals, one assist), while classmate
Becky Garner has started all three games in goal.
O Captain, My Captain
A veteran trio, one that has appeared in 154 of a possible 159 contests in the last three seasons, has been chosen to lead the Huskies in 2013. Senior
Lindsay Bennett and junior
Caroline Judge will serve as NU's captains this season, while junior
Kate Carlson was selected as vice captain. The three will each be looked upon to guide a young but talented group of Huskies seeking their third NCAA tournament berth in as many years.
There's no place like home
The 2013 season marks the start of a new chapter in Northeastern history with the team's new facility in Dedham, Mass. The state-of-the-art field gives the Huskies a permanent home for 11 games this season and beyond. The facility also provides brand new locker rooms.
Scouting Dartmouth
Dartmouth and Northeastern are set to meet for the 12th time in their history, with the Huskies dominating the all-time series 9-2, including wins in each of the last six meetings dating back to 1988. The 1-1 Big Green is coming off a 4-3 win against UC Davis on Sept. 8.
Junior forward Ali Savage leads the Ivy League in goals (three) and points (eight) this season, after finishing fifth in the league in both categories last year (10-6-26).
Junior midfielder Janine Leger is second on the team with 0-3-3 totals, after she was third in scoring on last year's squad with seven goals and three assists. Her total of three assists this season is tops in the Ivy League.
Junior Ellen Meyer has taken over in the Dartmouth goal after seeing plenty of relief action in 2012. Through two games this season, she has a 3.50 goals against average with a .667 save percentage.
Scouting New Hampshire
After getting off to an 0-3 start, the Wildcats picked up their first win of 2013 against the University of the Pacific on Sept. 8. Last year's UNH team had a solid 12-8 record, while going 5-0 in conference to finish first in America East.
Meg Flatley has led the Wildcats' offense so far this season. The sophomore forward has scored four goals and two assists for ten points after a strong freshman season (9-3-21). Seniors Megan Bozek (back) and Hannah Richard (midfielder) have contributed two goals apiece.
NU unveils 2013 digital media guide

This season's digital media guides provide a glance into the student-athletes, coaches and history of each NU team, as well as a multitude of information on the University and the City of Boston. The guide also allows fans to learn more about a specific topic with a simple click of the mouse. Visit GoNU.com/DMG to view all four fall media guides.
