Box Score | Season StatsNEWARK, Del. -- The Northeastern Huskies suffered a 3-2 loss to the Delaware Blue Hens in Newark, Delaware, on Friday night in a rematch of last season's Colonial Athletic Association championship game.

The Huskies are now 2-1 in CAA play, and 11-4 overall. This is also their first loss in seven matches on the road this season.
The back-and-forth game was decided with just less than five minutes remaining when Delaware's Michaela Patzner scored her third goal off a penalty corner at the 65:42 mark. The goal was unassisted.

The Huskies battled hard, but were unable to tie the score in the final minutes to push the game to overtime.

Becky Garner made six saves in the setback, while captain
Kate Carlson led the Huskies in shots with four.

Vanessa Pryor opened the game's scoring at the 15:34 mark of the first half. The junior buried her third marker of the season after she connected on a shot five yards inside the circle. The goal was unassisted.

The Blue Hens tied the game just 40 seconds later when Patzner converted on a penalty shot. Sophomore goalkeeper
Becky Garner made a tremendous effort to make the save, but the shot found its way past Garner to tie the game.

Delaware took its first lead of the game at the 29:19 mark of the first half. Patzner sored her second marker off a penalty corner, which was assisted by sophomore midfielder Esmee Peet.

Forward
Emmy Zweserijn tied it up at two at the 48:10 mark of the game when she converted on a powerful shot off a corner. It was her fifth goal of the season, but just her first time beating a goalkeeper off a corner. The goal was unassisted.

The Huskies had a strong scoring chance early in the second half when Carlson ripped one on net off a penalty corner, but the Blue Hens' Allie Mikelson was able to step in and make the save.

Cheryl Murtagh's squad now turns its attention to a home game against Towson on Sunday. The Tigers and Huskies will square off at 1 p.m. at Dedham Field.
