EUGENE, Ore. -- Wesley Gallagher will close out the 2013-14 Northeastern Athletics season on Friday night when the men's track and field sophomore competes in the 5000-meter run at the 2014 NCAA Championships in Eugene, Oregon. The Pembroke, Massachusetts native will run at 9:10 p.m. (ET) in a race that will be broadcasted live on ESPNU and ESPN3.

Gallagher, accompanied by Cathrine Erickson, director of track and field and cross country, and assistant coach Matt Lonergan, got his first look at Historic Hayward Field on Tuesday morning for a workout during open practice at Track Town USA.

How Wes got here
Gallagher punched his ticket to Eugene following a sixth place finish in his heat, and seventh place finish overall, in the 5000-meter run at the NCAA East Preliminary Round in Jacksonville, Florida. He finished with a time of 14:13.04 to claim one of the two next best times in the event.

Gallagher, the reigning CAA Men's Cross Country Runner of the Year, dominated the 2014 outdoor season by posting a new personal best in the 5000 meter run at the Stanford Invitational on April 4. The sophomore crossed the finish line with an IC4A qualifying time of 14:02.90, earning him 10th place in the race and the 34th best time in the region. With the time, he now ranks third on NU's all-time performance list in the event.
