InfographicCHARLESTON, S.C. – The Northeastern women's volleyball team pushed Charleston to the limit 31-29 in the second set, but the Huskies were two sets shy of clinching a win in their ninth four-set contest of the season.
Taylor Reiter hit at a .571 hitting percentage today, while
Brigitte Burcescu earned 12 kills.
Cherylain Dizon added 10 kills and
Jamie Bredahl registered her 10th double-double of the season with 23 assists and 15 digs. Contributing to the defense was
Ashlee Asada with 17 digs and
Caterina Rosander with four blocks.
For the Cougars, Melissa Morello earned a match-high of 18 kills, while Devon Rachel tabbed 15. Allison Beckman racked in 31 assists on the day and Britney Vallez picked up 28 of the Huskies' attacks. The team's lead blocker was Kayla Tronick with five total.

• Charleston got off on the right foot with an 8-1 lead and continued to power through with their offense.
• The Huskies battled to control the ball on their side, while adding blocks at 21-9 and 24-11, but the Cougars' offensive dominance moved the match forward.
Set two recap: (31-29, Northeastern)• NU opened with a 4-3 lead with kills from Dizon, Whitehead and Burcescu.
• Charleston responded with six straight points before NU entered a 5-3 run to bring the match to 12-9.
• Rosander locked down a kill to even out at 15 points.
• A 5-1 run by the Cougars pushed the Huskies to a timeout and followed up with three straight points.
• It was a race to 25 and as Charleston stood three points from the third set, Reiter and Bredahl connected for the point, followed by an unforced error to even at 22.
• Burcescu evened the set out at 24 and Bredahl at 26.
• CofC added an equalizer at 29 but Dizon earned a kill and an error on the Cougars worked in favor of NU.
Set three recap: (25-20, Charleston)• The Huskies were at the heels of CofC at 12-9, but landed straight points to even out the set.
• Two, four-point runs helped the Cougars take the lead, 23-17.
• Dizon earned back-to-back kills at 23-19 and Bredahl held CofC at 24, but a successful Cougar attack brought the match to set four.
Set four recap: (25-18, Charleston)• Charleston picked up ten points first, but NU only trailed by one.
• Four points later, NU gained the lead, 12-11, and pushed the Cougars to a timeout.
• The Huskies maintained the advantage before four straight Cougar points put them up, 18-16.
• CofC rolled on with four more points before Reiter and Dizon ended the run at 22-18, but another three from across the net closed out the set in CofC's favor.
Up nextThe Huskies return to Cabot Center for the first time since Sept. 27 and will face the Charleston Cougars again, Friday, Oct. 23 for a 7 p.m. match. NU will then host UNCW on Sunday at 1 p.m.
