Â
Led by redshirt senior
Kate Carlson who, in her final game as a Husky, recorded her first multi-goal game of her career, Northeastern (5-13, 2-4 CAA) jumped out to a 2-1 lead at halftime.
Â
Three second-half goals by the Blue Hens put Delaware (14-5, 4-2 CAA) on top and gave them the No. 4 seed in the CAA and a spot in the CAA Tournament.
Â
Carlson netted both of her shot attempts on the day in her 76
th game as a Husky. She alongside seniors
Zoe Kale and
Vanessa Pryor, were honored prior to the game in their last home contest in the red and black.
Â
Carlson put the Huskies on top with a quick, point blank shot just under four minutes into the game. Delaware fired back less than two minutes later with a goal of their own to even things at one-all.
Â
Carlson put her second goal into the back of the net on a brilliant penalty corner goal. The Huskies, who shifted just slightly before
June Curry-Lindahl's insert, were led by
Natalie Stewart's stop and Carlson's shot that skirted just to the left of the Blue Hen goalie for a 2-1 lead where it would remain until the end of the first half.
Â
Delaware jumped out in the second half, netting the equalizer just seconds into the second half. They went on top using a loping shot that was just out of the reach of
Becky Garner's stick trickling into the goal forcing head coach
Cheryl Murtagh to call a timeout.
Â
Abbey MacLellan evened things up once again at the 40-minute mark. Stewart took a free hit and dribbled it down the field and into the circle, falling forward just before the goal with her initial shot attempt. Finally, from her stomach, Stewart flicked a pass to MacLellan who slammed it into the net for the score.
Â
But Delaware earned the final, and game-winning goal as Taylor Lister took the ball from the 50-yard line and dribbled down beating Garner to the right for the game-winner.
Â
The Huskies finish their campaign with a 5-13 record, 2-4 in CAA. Northeastern played seven ranked teams on the year, three of which were ranked in the top-10 and suffered eight one-goal losses in 2015.
Â
Garner finished the year with 119 saves, setting a new season best for the junior, facing 278 shots on the year.Â
