BOSTON - The Northeastern field hockey team will take on some local competition this weekend in Harvard and Boston College.

The Huskies return home for their first time in three games when they face the Crimson Friday, September 18 at 5 p.m. at Dedham Field. NU will round out the weekend a few miles away at Boston College on Sunday, September 20 at 3 p.m.

SCOUTING THE CRIMSON
Despite graduating four talented players from a 2014 squad that went 10-7 overall and 4-3 in the Ancient Eight, the Crimson returns a plethora of talent led by captains Caroline Code and Elizabeth Jacobson. Replacing the four departed seniors are six freshmen and a junior transfer to bring this season's roster to 23 players.

Marissa Balleza leads the squad with four goals through three games while Jacobson has recorded a goal and three assists thus far.

THIS SEASON: Harvard has played in three games this season, one each weekend starting Sept. 4. The Crimson started off with a 2-1 loss at Holy Cross followed by a 5-2 win over Bryant and last weekend traveled to Maine where they fell 7-1 to the Black Bears.

ALL-TIME SERIES: The Huskies hold a 23-11 record over the Crimson in a series that dates back to 1980.

The Huskies and Crimson have faced off in every season but the 1981 season during the series and NU has shut out Harvard 15 times, including the last meeting between the two teams.

Northeastern is 12-5 all time at home vs. Harvard and has allowed just two goals in the last six meetings outscoring the Crimson 16-2 during that time.

LAST TIME AGAINST THE CRIMSON: Last season, Natalie Stewart tallied her second goal of the season halfway into the game as the lone  goal scored by either team would hold up as the game-winner en route to a 1-0 Husky victory.

SCOUTING THE EAGLES
Led by Emily McCoy, who has nine points on the season (3 goals, 3 assists), the BC Eagles have tallied 14 goals this season en route to a 4-2 overall record.

Nine different Eagles have recorded a goal this season while 12 different players have notched a point in 2015.

THIS SEASON: Boston College entered the season ranked 13th in the NFHCA preseason poll and currently sits at 11th entering the weekend.

BC started off the season on a three-game win streak with victories over Providence (3-0) and Quinnipiac (4-0) at home before heading to Lancaster, Pa. where they upset third-ranked Maryland 3-2 before falling to No. 10 Northwestern 3-1.

Last weekend, the Eagles went 1-1 with a 2-1 overtime win over BU followed by a 2-1 loss to No. 1 UConn in Storrs.

ALL-TIME SERIES: The Huskies lead the all-time series with the Eagles 23-13-1 meeting in every season except for 1982.

The Huskies are 9-6 all-time at BC.

LAST TIME AGAINST THE EAGLES: Last season, NU and BC went to two overtimes where Emma Lamison netted the game-winner for the Huskies 90:39 into the game.

BC struck first, but Kelly Dunn netted things up two minutes later. The Eagles went up again, but NU tied things up with under three minutes remaining to force overtime and earn the win.

LAST TIME OUT
Northeastern went 1-1 last week in its biannual trip to the Granite State when the Huskies faced off against Dartmouth and New Hampshire.

NU defeated Dartmouth 2-1 on Friday afternoon, extending its win streak over the Big Green to nine games. Kellie Stigas started things off with her first career goal followed by Natalie Stewart's second goal of the season to solidify the win.

The Huskies and UNH took part in a tough defensive battle that the Wildcats won the final minutes of play. Each team shut out the other through 61 minutes of action, until UNH scored with nine minutes remaining to earn the win.

NORTHEASTERN VS. BOSTON
This weekend, Northeastern will faceoff against two of the three Boston area teams on its schedule.

The Huskies and Boston area schools have had a long and storied rivalry dating back to the Huskies' first season as a varsity program in 1980. NU holds a 72-43-1 record over its Boston area foes.

THE HUSKIES IN SEPTEMBER
Through 36 seasons, Northeastern has a 168-100-4 (.625) all-time record during the month of September.

The Huskies have notched 143 of those wins under the direction of Murtagh (143-84-3, .628) and an 86-47 record since 2000 (.647) including two seasons where the Huskies went undefeated.

Last season (2014) Northeastern won eight consecutive games during the month of September en route to an 11-game win streak. The Huskies also went undefeated during the ninth month during the 2005 season (9 games) where they successfully completed a 12-game win streak.

STARTING IT OFF TOUGH
For the fourth consecutive season, the Huskies faced a ranked opponent in their opening weekend and for the second straight season it began against the nation's No. 1 team.

2015 - No. 1 UConn, No. 10 Northwestern
2014 - No. 1 Maryland
2013 - No. 11 Northwestern
2012 - No. 23 Louisville, No. 20 Northwestern

The Huskies began the season against three nationally ranked teams taking on No. 18 UMass in their home opener Sept. 3.

TO BE THE BEST...
…You have to face the best. This season Northeastern has already three ranked teams in No. 1 UConn, No. 10 Northwestern, and No. 18 UMass, and will go up against another on Sunday in No. 11 Boston College.  Six teams ranked in the NFHCA preseason Top-20 are currently on the Huskies schedule.
