InfographicDEDHAM, Mass. – In yet another defensive battle, the Northeastern field hockey team fell 1-0 to Harvard at Dedham Field on Friday night.
Â
The Huskies (2-5) allowed a late first half goal to the Crimson (2-2), the only goal tallied on the day by either team as Harvard avenged the 1-0 Northeastern victory from 2014.
Â
Becky Garner finished the game with a season-high 13 saves, 10 coming in the first half of play. She was just two shy of her career best 15 saves set last season against William and Mary on Nov. 3.
Â
Kate Carlson finished the day with four shots, two of them on goal, leading the Huskies. For Harvard, Elizabeth Jacobson, who scored the lone goal of the game, notched six shots on the night, four on goal.
Â
Harvard got on the board first as Jacobson notched her second goal of the season at 32:23. Jacobson stole the ball from defender
Jessica Unger in the circle in front of the net and beat Garner to the right side to give the Crimson a 1-0 lead.
Â
Harvard nearly went up 2-0 just seconds later on a breakaway with Kathleen Young taking the initial shot drawing Garner out of the goal to make the save. The rebound shot to the right, where Victoria Boylett corralled it and took just an extra second too long to shoot giving Garner enough time to reset and make the huge save, her 10th of the game.
Â
The Huskies return to action on Sunday afternoon when they head up the road to Chestnut Hill, Mass. for a meeting with No. 11 Boston College at 3 p.m.
