DEDHAM, Mass. – The Northeastern field hockey team jumped out to a fast lead and never looked back taking down Dartmouth 5-2 on Sunday afternoon at Dedham Field.
Jessica Unger recorded a goal and an assist on the day while
Laura MacLachlan tallied a pair of assists in the victory.

Northeastern (6-5) had a pair of players tally their first goals of the season in
Kellie Stigas and
Mia Martin. The duo helped the Huskies out to a 2-0 lead midway through the first half. Â

Five different Huskies scored in the victory, marking the fifth time this season that at least three different Huskies have scored in a game while the Huskies took a season-high 30 shots on the day, including 21 on goal.

Dartmouth (3-6) was led by Carmen Braceras and Katie Spanos who each had two shots on goal, and a goal in the loss.

Becky Garner made four saves, allowing just two goals on the day for the Huskies while Emma Plumb made 15 saves on the day for Dartmouth.

Northeastern jumped out on top first for the ninth time this season when Stigas tallied her first goal of the season off of a pass from MacLachlan. MacLachlan dished a pass from the center of the circle out to the right to Stigas for the score.

On Martin's goal, the junior used a rebound off of
Kristin Abreu's penalty corner shot to notch her first goal of the year putting herself in perfect position to set up for the attempt and score.

Just over 30 minutes into the half,
Jamie Bartucca helped give the Huskies a 3-0 lead when she sent in a shot from the right side off of MacLachlan's second assist of the game.

The Huskies made it 4-0, their largest lead of the season, when, just 45 seconds later, Unger threaded a long pass up to Abreu who beat her defender and sent a shot into the back of the net.

Dartmouth got one back, using a penalty corner with no time left on the clock at the end of the first half to record their first goal of the game as the Huskies headed to halftime with a 4-1 lead.

In the second half, the Big Green tallied their second straight goal to cut the lead to 4-2, but the Huskies added a late goal to seal the game when Unger swung her stick on a rebound that flew into the air and connected mid-swing to smash a goal into the back of the net.

The five goals scored Sunday are the most of the season and the most since Northeastern defeated Towson 6-3 on Oct. 30, 2015. Â

The Huskies return to action with a pair of home games next weekend as they host their first CAA game(s) of the season beginning on Friday, Oct. 7 against No. 19 James Madison at 6 p.m. and concluding against William & Mary Sunday afternoon at 1 p.m.
