MOUNT PLEASANT, S.C. – In need of a victory to keep its postseason potential alive, the Northeastern men's soccer team was unable to come through with three points as the Huskies were handed a 2-1 setback by College of Charleston on Saturday night.
Â
Khori Bennett tallied his second goal of the season on a penalty try during the 81st minute, spurring a nine-minute stretch that had NU searching for the equalizer.
Kevin Carvalho, who came on as a reserve and charted 59 minutes, led the Huskies with three shots.
Â
As a result of UNCW and William & Mary both earning victories on Saturday night, Northeastern (6-10-0, 3-5-0 CAA) will not qualify as one of the top six teams in the CAA that will head to the conference tournament.
Â
NU goalkeeper
Jonathan Thuresson stopped four of the six shots sent his way, facing four shots during the opening 15 minutes of the match. The Huskies' defensive unit did well to swing a 9-4 advantage in shots during the second half, although College of Charleston (4-8-3, 2-3-2 CAA) finished with a 13-9 lead overall by the final whistle.
Â
Outside of Bennett's two shots on goal,
Daniel Arvidsson registered the Huskies' third chance during the 57th minute.
Ackim Mpofu,
Christian McKenna, and
Jonas Taenzer each recorded shots on the evening as well.
