BROOKLINE, Mass. – Despite assembling one of its strongest offensive outings of the season, the Northeastern men's soccer team finished a goal shy of Elon, 1-0, on Saturday night at Parsons Field.
Khori Bennett and
Khesanio Hall combined to produce nine of the Huskies' 16 shots, which stand as the second most NU has powered during regulation this season (21). Bennett tied his season high with six shot attempts, heading his best chance on goal during the 39th minute.
Â
Northeastern (3-9-0, 1-4-0 CAA) did well managing the Phoenix's 13 shots, but fell behind during the 36th minute on an unassisted free kick by Jack Willbye.
Jonathan Thuresson made six saves in net for the Huskies, raising his season tally to 34.
Â
Martin Nygaard, who had scored his first career goal during Northeastern's most recent outing, had a gripping look at the match's equalizer during the 80th minute. Nygaard stormed the box following Carvalho's corner from the right flag, heading the ball across the goal but landing it beyond the left post.
Â
Ackim Mpofu equaled Nygaard with two shots, while
Gerardo Milano,
Lewis Aird, and Carvalho each ended the evening with one apiece.
