Elon, N.C. – The Northeastern volleyball team was defeated in the final match of the regular season against Elon this afternoon. Northeastern (20-10, 10-6 CAA) will take the No. 3 seed for the CAA Tournament while Elon (18-15, 4-12 CAA) was unable to clinch a spot in playoffs this season.
During the third set, senior
Jamie Bredahl tallied her 1,000
th career kill, making her the first Husky ever to total over 1,000 career kills, digs and assists. For the match, Bredahl added her 14
th double-double of the season with 11 kills and 15 digs.
Northeastern was led by
Carmen Costa with 13 kills, and
Natalie Shollin with 10 kills and a .333 hitting percentage.
Kristen Walding added 43 assists to her season total while
Gabrielle Eyl put up 24 digs.
Despite missing post-season, Elon's season was anything but over today. Michelle Klein totaled 15 kills while Ally Karle hit .471 on nine kills with just one error. Klein and Kam Terry both added five blocks and junior Sydel Curry contributed 56 assists.
Set One Recap (26-24 Northeastern)
- Northeastern got off to a bit of a slow start, gaining three of its first four points on Elon errors.
- Elon held a 10-3 advantage in kills with a 13-11 lead midway through the first set.
- The Phoenix kept up the attack, extending their lead to 19-14.
- The Huskies came back from a timeout fired up and took four points straight to cut the Phoenix's lead to two. 20-18
- Elon jumped to 24-22 but Northeastern fought back to force extra points.
- A kill from Bredahl ended the set 26-24 giving the Huskies a 1-0 match advantage.
Set Two Recap (29-27 Elon)
- Northeastern opened set two with a 3-1 lead.
- The Huskies extended their lead to 7-3.
- Elon chipped back to a three-point deficit at 9-6.
- The Huskies gained a four-point lead at 12-8.
- The Phoenix came back to put themselves within one. 13-12
- Natalie Shollin re-entered the lineup with a bang, putting down a kill for an 18-15 Husky lead.
- Northeastern still held the lead at 21-20 but Elon surged to 23-22 after back-to-back Husky errors.
- Elon pushed the set to extra points, with the score still tied through 26.
- The Phoenix gained the advantage and knocked the last point in to tie the match 1-1.
Set Three Recap (25-20 Elon)
- Northeastern and Elon battled to knot the score at 5-5.
- The Phoenix got a 9-6 advantage after three straight kills.
- Elon extends their lead to 15-10.
- Northeastern and Elon traded points at a time before Elon improved to a 22-18 lead.
- Northeastern fought to 20 but Elon put down a quick kill to take the set.
- During the third set, senior Jamie Bredahl tallied her 1,000th career kill, making her the first Husky to notch 1,000 career kills, digs and assists.
Set Four Recap (25-19 Northeastern)
- The teams went back and forth, tying the score at 4.
- Neither team was able to get ahead more than three, before the Huskies began a run for the finish.
- Two errors from Elon and a kill from Costa put the Huskies up 17-13.
- Northeastern inched upwards to 21-16.
- Kills from Rosander, White and Shollin force set five.
Set Five Recap (15-8 Elon)
- The Phoenix got a 3-1 jump to start the final frame.
- Elon took another two quick points to make it 5-1.
- Elon hit 8 first, switching sides with the Huskies at 5.
- The Phoenix kept on the attack, notching two kills late to win the match.

The Huskies will head to Wilmington, N.C. for the CAA Tournament next Friday-Sunday. Northeastern will take on Delaware in the second of two quarterfinal matches on Friday at 7 p.m.
