Huskies edged on the road at Towson

Towson, Md. – The Northeastern Huskies suffered their second straight setback against Towson this afternoon. After dropping the first set by a wide margin (25-13), Northeastern rallied for a 25-21 win in set two. The Huskies were going for set point in set three before a Towson snipe pushed the set to extra points where the Tigers put two home to lead the match 2-1 (28-26). Northeastern was unable to get ahead in set four, where the Tigers sealed the 3-1 match with a 25-21 win.
 
For the Huskies, Jamie Bredahl led with 14 kills. Kristen Walding posted 33 assists while Gabrielle Eyl totaled 27 digs. Hannah Fry registered four blocks, hitting 100 total blocks for her career when added with the three from Friday's match.
 
Towson was led by Jessica Lewis with 17 kills. Candace Steadman had the team high .625 hitting percentage. On defense, Anna Holehouse added 21 digs and Steadman also contributed five blocks.
 
Set One Recap (25-13 Towson)
  • In good spirits on Senior Day, the Tigers jumped to a 5-1 lead.
  • Towson continued on the attack, extending the lead to eight at 14-6.
  • Northeastern's attempts to come back were snubbed by the Tigers, who raced to a 25-13 victory.
 
Set Two Recap (25-21 Northeastern)
  • Northeastern began set two with a 3-0 run.
  • The Tigers responded by gaining a 5-4 lead.
  • The Huskies knotted the score at 7 with a kill from Bredahl.
  • The Tigers gained momentum, leading to a six-point lead.
  • Northeastern came within two at 13-11 but the Tigers gained another XX point lead.
  • The Huskies came within one at 17-16.
  • Northeastern tied the score at 21 before taking four points straight to win the set.
 
Set Three Recap (28-26 Towson)
  • The teams were locked at 3 before Northeastern took a 5-4 lead.
  • Towson went on a 5-0 run to make it 9-5.
  • The Huskies fought back for a 15-15 tie and posted a two-point lead at 22-20.
  • Towson came from behind to tie the score at 24, forcing extra points.
  • The Huskies caught the Tigers at 26 but Towson held on to gain the final two points to take the set.
 
Set Four Recap (25-21 Towson)
  • Neither team was able to get ahead by more than one point until Towson took a two-point advantage at 15-13.
  • The Huskies would not allow the Tigers to go on a run, tying the score at 15.
  • Towson took three in a row before Northeastern called a timeout to regroup.
  • Northeastern fought to catch the Tigers but were unable to close in, dropping the match 3-1.
 
 
Next Up
The Huskies will play their final regular season match next Sunday, Nov. 13 at Elon at 2 p.m.
