BOSTON – Primed to contend for Beantown bragging rights, the Northeastern men's soccer team will renew its 32-year rivalry with Boston University on Tuesday, Sept. 13, when the Huskies make the short trek up Commonwealth Avenue to Nickerson Field for a 7 p.m. derby against the Terriers.
Â
BOSTON DERBY
Â
Northeastern (1-3-0) and Boston University (1-1-0) will meet for the 29th time on Tuesday night, with the Huskies trailing the Terriers, 7-20-1, in the all-time series. NU looks to claim its first victory in three tries against BU since Sept. 23, 2008, when the Huskies' Mike Kennedy scored the lone goal of the derby at Parsons Field during the 48th minute. Boston University has more recently earned wins against Northeastern during the 2013 and 2014 campaigns.
Â
RECAPPING WEEK THREE
Â
Trailing Fairfield, 2-0, late on Sept. 10, Northeastern's
Khori Bennett took ownership of the Huskies' attack and delivered a pair of shots during the final five minutes of play, finding the top right corner of the net during the 89th minute.
Dan Korman was credited with his first collegiate assist upon feeding the NU striker a left-to-right pass from 25 yards out, setting up Bennett well to roll around the Stags' defenders and notch his first collegiate goal. While Northeastern's eight shots were trumped by Fairfield's 11, the Huskies crafted a higher percentage of chances, funneling five shots on net to the Stags' six.
Â
NORTHEASTERN'S 2016 GOAL SCORERS
Â
The Huskies enter Tuesday's derby against BU with three different goal scorers on the 2016 season:
Â
Â
SCOUTING BOSTON UNIVERSITY
Â
Northeastern will be the third straight team from the Bay State that the Terriers cross paths with to open the 2016 season. Boston University rides consecutive multi-goal games into Tuesday night's derby, scoring twice against No. 8 Boston College (L, 2-3) on Aug. 28 and twice against Massachusetts (W, 2-1) on Sept. 10.
Â
Anthony Viteri leads BU with two goals on four shots this season, while Felix de Bona is the Terriers' main shot creator, powering four of his 10 attempts on net (one goal) and appearing on field for all but 10 minutes of action during the squad's first two matches. Goalkeeper Matt Gilbert has saved seven of the 11 shots sent his way (.636 save percentage) and owns a 2.00 goals against average.
Â
LAST MEETING
Â
Despite doubling up Boston University, 14-7, in shots on Sept. 16, 2014, Northeastern lost a 2-1 decision against the Terriers at Parsons Field. Although the Huskies fell behind, 1-0, during the 16th minute, NU caught a second wind just short of the hour mark, when Simon Cox rocketed the match-tying penalty kick through during the 57th minute. Northeastern piled on seven shots of offense down the stretch, but the Terriers' David Amirani ultimately found the game-winner during the 69th minute.
