Cambridge, Mass. – The Northeastern Huskies (8-4) defeated Harvard (2-7) in their first match of the New England Challenge today (Saturday). After dropping the first set 25-23, the Huskies bounced back and took set two 25-22 battling the Crimson on every serve. After the 10-minute intermission, Northeastern came back with unbelievable momentum taking down Harvard 25-10. To close out the match, Northeastern took set four 25-22.
Northeastern improves its winning streak to five matches after today's win.
Set One Recap: (25-23 Harvard)
- Northeastern and Harvard traded points to start, keeping the score tied at 5.
- The Huskies made their move and took a five-point lead. (14-9)
- The Crimson struggled to get control of the ball, leading to a 16-9 lead in favor of the Huskies.
- Northeastern gave up a few points, allowing Harvard to cut its lead to two. (19-17)
- Battling for the final few points, Northeastern was edged by Harvard in set one.
Set Two Recap: (25-22 Northeastern)
- Northeastern came out of the gate strong with a 4-1 lead.
- The Huskies continued to hold their lead at 12-8.
- The Red and Black went on a 5-1 run en route to a 22-18 lead.
- Harvard attempted to come back but was unable to fend off the Huskies who took set two 25-22.
Set Three Recap: (25-10 Northeastern)
- After a 10-minute intermission, the Huskies returned to the court motivated as ever to take set three.
- The Huskies racked up an 8-2 lead to start the set.
- A light tap by Hannah Fry put Northeastern up 15-7.
- The Huskies charged ahead 21-8 and sealed the set with the largest win margin of the season. (25-10)
Set Four Recap: (25-22 Northeastern)
- Northeastern again took an early lead with a fake-out from Kristen Walding putting the score at 8-5 in favor of the Huskies.
- Northeastern held its lead through 15-10.
- Harvard's fight back fell short as Northeastern took the match with a 25-22 win in set four.
