Huskies sweep BC, post six game winning streak

Chestnut Hill, Mass. – The Northeastern volleyball team battled for a three set win at Boston College earlier today. (Sunday) To close out the New England Challenge, the Huskies (9-4) defeated the Eagles (5-5) 25-19, 32-30 and 25-16.
 
Northeastern increases it's winning streak to six games after today's sweep. This is the first time Northeastern has swept the New England challenge since 2013 and the Huskies have now swept three out of the five New England Challenges.
 
Four Huskies had hitting percentages over .300 in today's match. (3+ TA per set) Standout numbers came from Rosander, White and Fry, hitting .471, .467 and .375 respectively. Rosander ended the match with zero errors and White and Fry tallied just one error each. Junior Kristen Walding posted 43 assists in the three set match, her season high is 47 from the five set battle with California.
 
For the Eagles, Sophia West made an impact with nine kills and just one error. Julia Topor also stood out on the BC offense recording 15 kills. Sophomore Camille Oemcke led the Eagles with 21 assists.
 
 
Set One Recap: (25-19 Northeastern)
  • The Eagles got out to a 4-2 lead but Northeastern quickly made the gap up with a kill from Bredahl to tie it at 5.
  • Northeastern continued to attack keeping the score within one and took its first lead at 10-9.
  • Kills from Fry and White put Northeastern up by two. (13-11)
  • Northeastern pushed its lead to five points at 19-14.
  • Walding and Rosander put up a monster block to put the Huskies up 21-15.
  • Boston College hit an attack error to give the Huskies set one 25-19.
 
Set Two Recap: (32-30)
  • The Eagles came into set two with a 5-2 run.
  • Boston College continued to attack, pushing the score to 12-8.
  • Burcescu and Bredahl sent lasers into BC territory tying the set at 13.
  • A kill from Rosander kept the score tied at 17.
  • Back and forth side outs forced the set to extra points.
  • Northeastern and Boston College continued to trade points pushing the score to 29-29.
  • Jamie Bredahl sent an attack straight to the Eagles' floor to end set two 32-30.
 
Set Three Recap: (25-16 Northeastern)
  • Set three began in a similar fashion with the Huskies and Eagles trading points before the Huskies took a slight lead at 8-6.
  • Northeastern increased its lead to 11-7 with a kill from Rosander.
  • The Huskies continued to charge ahead taking a six-point lead. (17-11)
  • Freshman Nicole Magbanua made her collegiate debut with Northeastern up 20-13.
  • Northeastern finished strong putting set three away with a nine-point margin.

Northeastern is back in action on Tuesday, Sept. 20 at New Hampshire at 7 p.m.
