PHILADELPHIA – Contesting the latter of two matches this weekend in Philadelphia on Sunday afternoon, the Northeastern men's soccer team faced its toughest test of the young 2016 season as the Huskies were edged by Temple, 3-0, at the new Temple Sports Complex.
Â
Khori Bennett,
Khesanio Hall, and
Brendan Massie combined to produce Northeastern's four shots and three shots on goal. Temple amassed eight shots on goal out of 16 attempts, scoring two goals during the first half and tacking on a third before the hour mark.
Â
NU head coach
Chris Gbandi split his goalkeepers evenly across the first and second halves, starting
Jonathan Thuresson and bringing
Matt Dabrowski on for his collegiate debut after halftime. Dabrowski saved two of the three shots he faced during the final 45 minutes of the match.

GOAL RECAPS
Â
-
Temple (24th minute): A discouraging foul committed by Northeastern along the edge of the 18-yard box awarded Temple a set piece inline with the right post. Jorge Gomez Sanchez proceeded to send the ensuing free kick to the top right corner, beating
Jonathan Thuresson and putting the Owls in front, 1-0.
-
Temple (42nd minute): Gomez Sanchez came dangerously close to scoring his second goal of the game during the 41st minute, sliding by a pair of NU defenders during an attack and clipping the left post. With the ball remaining in play, Temple maintained possession and brought its players forward during the next half-minute. Carlos Gracia then scooted a pass from the middle of the box to the right side, where George McGee found the top shelf to give the Owls a 2-0 edge.
-
Temple (56th minute): Following a Northeastern turnover in the Huskies' defensive third, Gomez Sanchez dribbled from the top of Temple's 18-yard box to the right side, delivering a cross to Kevin Klett in front of
Matt Dabrowski. Klett just barely beat Dabrowski to the cross to guide home the Owls' third goal of the match.
