BOSTON – The Northeastern field hockey team will get the 2017 season started at the New England Classic on Friday afternoon when they take on the University of New Hampshire on New Balance Field.

The neutral site game between the two former America East foes will kick off at 4 p.m. The classic will round out Sunday afternoon and the Huskies will either play at 1 or 3:30 p.m. against Boston University or Bryant, depending on Friday's results.

NORTHEASTERN VS.
NEW HAMPSHIRE
- New Hampshire and Northeastern have met 46 times in the past, at least once a year in every season that the Huskies have been a varsity program since 1980
- The Huskies have won two out of the last three meetings with the Wildcats with both of those wins coming at home including a 3-1 victory last year at Dedham Field
- The last time the two programs met on a neutral site was in the America East Championships in 1999, a 4-2 victory for the Huskies on Boston University's campus
- The Huskies are 8-1 all-time on neutral sites against the Wildcats
- Head Coach of the Huskies, Cheryl Murtagh, is a 1981 graduate of UNH
- Head Coach of the Wildcats, Robin Balducci, coached at Northeastern for three seasons alongside Murtagh from 1988-90 before taking the reins at UNH in 1991
BRYANT
- The Huskies and Bryant will meet for the first time in the history of both programs
- The Bryant field hockey program was founded in 2003 and became a Division-I program in 2008
- On Friday, the Bulldogs dropped a 4-0 decision to host school Boston University in their first game of the New England Challenge
- Second-year assistant coach (and triplet) MaKayla Hancock is a 2014 graduate of Bryant University where she played in 66 games on defense for the Bulldogs alongside her sisters Mallory (forward) and Megan (GK)
LAST SEASON
- The Huskies finished the 2016 season with an 8-10 record and a 2-4 conference record
- Of the Huskies 18 regular season games, they faced off against five ranked teams, including eventual National Champion Delaware during conference play
- The Huskies were led by First Team All-CAA and NFHCA First Team All-Region honoree Natalie Stewart who collected six goals and 12 assists on the year for 24 points while current senior Jamie Bartucca tallied a team-high 10 goals, most since 2013Â
30 YEARS THE CHARM
- As announced last week, the 2017 season will be Husky head coach Cheryl Murtagh's last as the leader of the Red and Black
- After three seasons as an assistant coach at Northeastern, Murtagh was promoted to head coach in 1988 where she led the Huskies to their first ever Final Four appearance
- Murtagh has acquired a 399-246-13 record in 32 years as a head coach (she spent two seasons as the HC of Bentley following her graduation from UNH), with 382 of those victories coming at NUÂ
