HAMDEN, Conn. – Chipping in a pass from
June Curry-Lindahl,
Jamie Bartucca played hero for the Northeastern field hockey team on Friday afternoon as she sent in the go-ahead goal in the 70
th minute of action to give Northeastern a 2-1 victory at Quinnipiac.
With the win, the Huskies improve to 11-0 all-time against the Bobcats, 3-0 in Hamden, Conn. and 2-1 in 2017.
Bartucca gathered a centering pass from Curry-Lindahl, and while racing through the circle, chipped a shot up in the air and across the goal line for the score. Her teammate
Laura MacLachlan was right there to take a swing at it and make certain the ball reached the back of the net for the game-winning score.
The Farmington, Conn. native recorded both of the Huskies' goals on the day in the lone game of her senior season in her home state.
Much like the two games last weekend, the Husky netminders split the time with
Julia Ennis starting things off in the first half saving three shots on goal and shutting out the Bobcats in the first stanza while
Julia Gluyas took the latter half of the game allowing just one goal and making a save on three shots faced.
Eliza Ruiz Martinez netted the lone Quinnipiac goal as the Bobcats dropped to 0-3 on the season with the loss.
Quinnipiac thought that it had the first lead of the game, taking advantage of their first penalty corner of the game, but the would-be goal by Lauren Belskie was called back keeping the score even at 0-0.
The Huskies eventually earned the first lead of the game, taking advantage of a Belskie miscue in their offensive half of the field as Bartucca put back her third goal of the season to put the Huskies up 1-0.
Quinnipiac tied things up at one-all in the second half when, in the 49
th minute, Ruiz Martinez finally took advantage of a QU penalty corner deflecting Michelle Federico's shot into the goal.
But, with time winding down, Bartucca sent in the game-winner with just 57 seconds remaining in regulation to give the Huskies the victory in their lone game of the Labor Day weekend.
Northeastern will be back in action next Friday night when they head to Providence for a 6 p.m. meeting with the Friars before hosting their first home game of the season against California at Noon on Sunday.
