DEDHAM, Mass. – After falling behind 0-2 through the first 20 minutes of action, the Northeastern field hockey team scored six unanswered goals to upend Vermont 6-2 Sunday afternoon on Dedham Field.

After the Catamounts' second goal of the game, Northeastern's Laura MacLachlan pulled the team together, gave them some words of encouragement, took the first pass from midfield and drove 60 yards up the field putting the Huskies on the board with a shot from the middle of the circle to make it a 2-1 game.

Just a few minutes later, Jamie Bartucca evened the score in the 23rd minute to send the Huskies into the halftime break all square at two.

In the second half, Northeastern reeled off four-straight goals in 10 minutes, including a pair from senior Kristin Abreu, her first and second goals of the season, to give the Huskies a 6-2 lead and the ultimate victory.

Julia Ennis played all 70 minutes in goal on the day, save for Vermont's penalty stroke opportunity which Julia Gluyas subbed in for, allowing just one goal and making three saves for the Huskies. Vermont's goalkeeper, Lena Benwood played 64:27 of action allowing six goals and making four saves on 23 shots faced, before subbing out for the first time in 2017.

With the win, the Huskies earn their 25th victory over Vermont in program history.

GOAL DESCRIPTIONS

FIRST HALF
Vermont 1-0: The Catamounts got on top first as Landon Warren chipped in a shot past Julia Ennis from right in front of the goal, taking what was a mess of bodies in front of the goal and putting Vermont up 1-0 in the 18th minute of action.

Vermont 2-0: Vermont made it a 2-0 game in the 20th minute of play when Rachel Phillips converted on a penalty stroke, the first penalty stroke made against the Huskies this season, to give the Catamounts a 2-0 lead.

Northeastern 2-1: Just 20 seconds after the penalty stroke goal, Laura MacLachlan took the pass off of the reset and dribbled 60 yards up the right side of the field, into the center of the circle and slammed a shot home to get the Huskies on the board for the first time on the day in the 21st minute of action.

Northeastern 2-2: Jamie Bartucca tied the game up at two-all with her tenth goal of the season, tying her career-high set last year. June Curry-Lindahl set up the scoring opportunity stealing a Vermont pass at the top of the circle as they tried to swing it after the Huskies were called for a foul. Curry-Lindahl brought the ball into the circle, where she slammed into a Vermont defender, as she was calling for a corner, her pass dribbled free to Bartucca who netted the score in the 23rd minute.

SECOND HALF
Northeastern 3-2: On the Huskies' sixth penalty corner of the game, after two saves by the Vermont goalie on shots by Aniek van de Graaf and Camille O'Conor, Kristin Abreu rounded up the rebound and sent it high into the goal for her first goal of the season and the go-ahead goal for the Huskies

Northeastern 4-2: Ffion Thompson converted on her second penalty stroke of the season to record the Huskies fourth goal of the game, an insurance goal with 10 minutes remaining in play. Thompson is 2-for-2 on the season when attempting penalty strokes.

Northeastern 5-2: After Curry-Lindahl was fouled just outside the circle, Abreu quickly restarted, drove just inside the circle and reeled off a backhanded shot that crossed through everyone and into the bottom right corner of the goal

Northeastern 6-2: Camille O'Conor redirected Thompson's cross from the lower right corner of the circle into the back of the net for the Huskies sixth straight goal in the game in the 65th minute of action. Thompson dribbled the ball through the circle, sent a pass across the middle and O'Conor found the ball and sent it in for the four-goal lead.

The Huskies are on the road for a pair of games next weekend when they open up CAA play against Towson on Friday, Sept. 29 at 7 p.m. before heading to William & Mary on Sunday afternoon. The Huskies rounded out 2016 against Towson and will open conference play against them this year.
