TOWSON, Md. – The Northeastern field hockey team headed down to Towson and came away with a 2-1 victory over the Tigers in the team's conference opener Friday night.

The Huskies controlled the tempo of the game for the majority of the night outshooting the Tigers 16-4, including 12 shots on goal.

Kellie Stigas, who had three of Northeastern's 12 shots on goal, scored the would-be game-winner utilizing the 15
th of Northeastern's 17 penalty corners on the night sending in a rocket off of
Jamie Bartucca's insertion for Northeastern's second goal of the game.

Sophomore Meg Barrett got the Huskies on the board in the first half with her first career goal.
Â
Emilee Woodall added to her nation leading 120 saves with 10 on the night while
Julia Gluyas got her second career start making a pair of saves, early in the first half, and allowing just the one goal on the night.

FIRST HALF
Northeastern 1-0: The Huskies struck first against the Tigers in the 25
th minute of play when Barrett netted her first goal of the season, and the first of her career, when she gobbled up a rebound of
Laura MacLachlan's shot off of the penalty corner, and sent it back into the goal to put the Huskies up 1-0.

SECOND HALF
Northeastern 2-0: Stigas made it a 2-0 game when, on the Huskies' 15
th penalty corner of the game, Stigas ripped in a shot off of Bartucca's insertion for her career-best fifth goal of the season. Bartucca's insertion went right to Stigas, who set up outside the top left corner of the circle and sent the pass past Woodall. Stigas became the third Husky with at least five goals scored the season on the score.

Towson 2-1: Towson made it interesting down the stretch getting on the board in the 63
rd minute of play. Paige Zaleppa redirected Katie McNeel's shot off of the penalty corner to cut the Husky lead in half with seven minutes to go.

But the Huskies held on for the victory and in doing so have not trailed against Towson in 420 minutes of action, dating back to a 1-0 loss in the 2011 season.

The Huskies continue their CAA road trip this weekend when they travel to Williamsburg, Va. for a meeting with No. 19 William & Mary on Sunday afternoon, the first game against a ranked Tribe since Sept. 21, 2012, a 3-2 victory in favor of Northeastern.
