Overland Park, Kan. – Gabrielle Eyl was named as a candidate for the
2018 Senior CLASS Award on Monday afternoon. The senior was selected as one of 30 student-athletes across the nation to receive this recognition.

Eligibility for the award requires the student-athlete to be classified as a NCAA Division I senior with achievements in the community, classroom, character and competition. The award encourages student-athletes to use their platform to make impacts in their communities and excel in the classroom.

Eyl serves as a captain of the Northeastern volleyball team while maintaining impressive grades in the D'Amore-McKim School of Business and serves as a Student Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) representative. As captain, she uses her introspective personality and selflessness, to positively serve her teammates. Head coach,
Ken Nichols, describes Eyl a responsible leader with a strong work ethic and discipline.

Rosie's Place in Boston has served as a home base for Eyl's passion for community service while at Northeastern. She has served over 50 hours at the local sanctuary for poor and homeless women while maintaining academics and volleyball.

Additionally, her game has proved prolific for Northeastern volleyball, ranking second in program history for all-time digs. She was named 2017 CAA Defensive Specialist of the Year and has finished as high as seventh in the country for digs per set.

Of the 30 current candidates, 10 will be chosen as finalists and placed on the official ballot. When ballots are released, fans, coaches and media will vote on the candidate who they believe deserves the award based on their success in the community, classroom, character and competition.
