HEMPSTEAD, N.Y. – Five different Huskies got on the board and the Northeastern field hockey team netted three-unanswered goals en route to the team's second-straight 5-2 conference victory, this time at Hofstra Friday afternoon.
The Huskies kept Hofstra goalie Betty Bosma busy on the day finishing with a season-high tying 30 shots on goal (Holy Cross, Aug. 31) with a season-best 17 shots of those coming on goal. Bosma finished with 12 saves on the day. On the Northeastern side, Gluyas faced four shots, saving a pair and letting a pair in.
Redshirt freshman
Jamie Chebuske netted her first career goal on the day, while
Laura MacLachlan added a goal and a pair of assists in the outing.
The Pride got on top first utilizing a penalty corner just over three minutes into the game, but the Huskies responded back with a penalty corner goal of their own in the seventh minute of action.
Kellie Stigas netted her first goal of the year, smashing in a shot stopped by MacLachlan and inserted by
June Curry-Lindahl.
After Hofstra got out to a 2-1 lead in the 23
rd minute, the Huskies responded once again, this time when, after four-straight penalty corners, MacLachlan tallied her second goal of the year, gobbling up the rebound of her initial shot and sending it back into the back of the net for the equalizer.
The Huskies attacked the Pride in the first half, finishing with 16 shots, eight on goal, to the Pride's five (three). Northeastern also was able to draw 11 first-half penalty corners to Hofstra's two, scoring on two of them.
In the second half,
Camille O'Conor raced forward to give the Huskies their first advantage of the game deflecting Meg Barrett's initial penalty corner shot, to put Northeastern up 3-2 in the 45
th minute of play. Chebuske added to the total four minutes later when she batted in a rebound out of the air and into the back of the net to pad the Husky lead and net her first career goal.
Lexie Dunleavy added another goal a few minutes later to make it a 5-2 Husky advantage as MacLachlan sent in a pass from the right side into the middle of the circle and Dunleavy pushed it left and into the net for her second score of the year.
The Huskies are back in action with an unusual two-game non-conference week beginning on Tuesday afternoon against Bryant. The two teams will square off at Brown University at 4 p.m. The week will close out on the road when the Huskies head to Dartmouth College for a 1 p.m. Sunday Matinee against the Big Green.
