Charleston, S.C. -- The Northeastern volleyball team (11-8, 4-2) swept the College of Charleston (13-6, 4-2) in three sets on the road Sunday afternoon.
This sweep is the first for the Huskies since their first game of the 2018 season against Grambling State.
Samantha Shupe assisted her teammates 30 times and threw in five blocks against the Cougars. Athena Ardila's 11 kills for 12.5 points paired with Hannah Boyd's nine for nine, gave the Huskies the offense they needed to win the match.
After losing by six early in the first set, a 10-3 run by the Howlin' Huskies gave them a lead they kept to finish set one, 25-18. The second set did not prove as easy for the Huskies, as the Cougars stayed within a two-point margin throughout. But NU eked out a 25-23 win the lead the match, two sets to one.
As the Cougars creeped up on the Huskies in the third set, they went on a 6-1 scoring run to extend their lead and complete the sweep, with a third set score of 25-18.
