DEDHAM, Mass. – The nation's leading scoring team in No. 18 Maine came into Dedham Field and left with a 9-1 victory over the Northeastern field hockey team on Friday afternoon.
The Huskies made it interesting at the half, as they headed into the break down just 2-1 to the Black Bears, but Maine netted seven unanswered goals in the second half en route to the 9-1 rout.
Maine got out to a 1-0 lead during the seventh minute of action, using a mess of bodies in front of the goal following a penalty corner to sneak a shot past Husky goalkeeper
Julia Gluyas. They added to their lead in the 17
th minute of play before the Huskies cut the lead in half as
Camille O'Conor netted her fourth goal of the season to make it a 2-1 game at the half.
In the second half, Maine came out firing tallying seven second half goals, including four in a five minute span which prompted a goalkeeping change for the Huskies, their first of the year as
Julia Ennis checked into play in the 52
nd minute.
The Huskies goalkeeping trio of Gluyas (52', five saves, six goals allowed),
Julia Ennis (12', one save, three GA) and
Erin Savage (7') were busy as Maine finished the game with 23 shots on the day, 16 of them coming on goal.
The Huskies will round out the week of action on Sunday at Noon when they face No. 10 Virginia at Dedham Field.
