DEDHAM, Mass. – No. 10 Virginia scored just one minute and 13 seconds into the game, and that was all of the scoring either team would get as the Northeastern field hockey team rounded out their toughest week of the year falling 1-0 to the Cavaliers Sunday afternoon at Dedham Field.

The Hoos got on the board just over one minute into action when Erin Shanahan netted her first goal of the year. Grace Wallis took the initial shot on goal of the game, corralled her rebound and then slid it in front of the goal to an awaiting Shanahan who pushed it in for the early lead, where the score remained for the final 68:47 of regulation.

Lexie Dunleavy finished the game with a couple of solid tries, one in the first half going just wide, and her second in the second half coming on goal and at a perfectly positioned Carrera Lucas.

Both Lucas and Gluyas were stellar in goal on the day, holding their opponents off and making a combined 14 saves between the two of them, seven-apiece.

The Huskies pulled Gluyas for the final 3:14 as they went for the equalizer, but were unable to get anything past Lucas, who finished with her second shutout of the year.

Northeastern begins conference action next weekend, when they wrap up their five-game homestand beginning on Friday afternoon against William & Mary and rounding out the weekend against Towson on Sunday afternoon, Alumni Day at Dedham Field.
