DEDHAM, Mass. – The Northeastern field hockey team put up a season-high five goals en route to a 5-2 upending of Towson to pick up the team's first CAA win of the season at Dedham Field Sunday afternoon on Alumni Day.
June Curry-Lindahl netted a pair of goals on the day for her third multi-goal effort of the year, tallying her seventh and eighth goals of the season while Meg Barrett netted her first goal of the year and
Angela Connolly recorded her first career goal in the win.
The Huskies offense was on fire outshooting Towson 25-5 on the day while drawing seven penalty corners, to the Tigers' three.
Northeastern got on the board first when
June Curry-Lindahl netted her seventh goal of the season taking a long pass into the circle from the left side of the field from
Sam Bodo, settled it and sent a shot hard and high at the Towson goalkeeper, that she got a pad on, but was unable to stop as it bounced into the goal for the score.
Fellow senior
Rachel Campbell added to the lead just a few minutes later, taking a pass from
Lexie Dunleavy and backhanding it just inside the left post to make it a 2-0 game.
The Huskies added another goal in the second-half when Curry-Lindahl recorded her second goal of the game on a rocket of a shot before Towson was able to get on the board utilizing a penalty corner.
But after the Tigers' goal, The Huskies responded quickly as Meg Barrett netted her first goal of the year a minute later, sending a clean shot in from the top of the circle before
Angela Connolly added her first collegiate goal a few minutes later to make it a 5-1 advantage.
Towson got one back with 90 seconds to go in the game, but it didn't matter as the Huskies came away with the 5-2 victory.
The Huskies are on the road for the first time in three weeks when they head out to take on CAA foe Hofstra on Friday, Oct. 5 at 3 p.m. in their lone game of the weekend.
