Field Hockey announces 2019 recruiting class

Six newcomers will join the Huskies as they look to return to the CAA Tournament for the third-straight season

BOSTON– Head coach Shelly Morris has announced the addition of six new student-athletes to the Northeastern Field Hockey roster for the 2019 season on Tuesday.
 
The 2019 recruiting class hails from four different states and three different countries and is comprised of athletes that have seen success on the high school, club and national levels. 
 
There is a local Massachusetts product who, earned All-Scholastic honors in addition to Hockomock Sports Player of the Year honors her senior year. There are two players from the north, one from New Hampshire who scored the game-winner in the state championship her senior year and the Max Field Hockey Maine Player of the Year. There is a two-time All-Conference honoree from Virginia, as well as a duo from the United Kingdom who have both seen success on their respective national teams.
 
The six newcomers will add some depth to the Husky offense, defense as well as the midfield as Northeastern looks to get back to the CAA Tournament for the third-straight season.

Lauren Alkire

Morris on Alkire: "I have been able to watch Lauren grow for the last few years and I think she is still full of potential. She is strong and dynamic and incredibly coachable and has worked hard to better her game year after year."
 
Before NU: A four-year letterwinner and senior captain at Winnacunnet High School under head coach Heidi Hand … Earned NHIAA Division I Midfielder of the Year and Player of the Year honors her senior season … Scored the game-winning goal in the Division I New Hampshire State Championship game in 2018 en route to helping her team to an undefeated season and state title … Named to First Team All-State and First Team All-New England as a senior … Awarded NHIAA Division I Defender of the Year her junior year … Also ran track for three years and playedbone year of lacrosse … Member of the Northeast Elite Field Hockey Club.
 
Personal: Daughter of John and Lynne Alkire … Has one brother, Matthew, and two step-brothers, Ben and Blake … In her spare time enjoys skiing, going to the beach, and traveling … Participated in the Interact Club and was Sophomore Class Vice President at Winnacunnet High School. … Intends to major in business/marketing … Class of 2023.

Morris on Brazinsky: "We are excited to pick up Cassie late in the recruiting process, and have her become a Husky. Northeastern has always been on her list and we can't wait to see her in a Northeastern uniform in the fall."
 
Before NU: A two-year letterwinner at Oakton High School under head coach Erin Mcgartland …  Named co-captain her junior year and head captain her senior year … Two time First Team All-Conference honoree … Earned First Team All-Region, First Team All-Tournament, and Second Team All-State her senior year … Was named team MVP her senior year … A member of the Rampage club field hockey team. 
 
Personal: Daughter of Michael and Jennifer Brazinsky … Has one sister, Sammie … Is currently learning sign language and enjoys working on calligraphy in her spare time… Also played on her softball team freshman and sophomore year, starting and playing in every game … Member of the National Honor Society, Science Honor Society, and Spanish Honor Society … Intends to major in nursing and wants to become an anesthesiologist or emergency/trauma nurse … Class of 2023.

Morris on Hart: "We are excited to add Cailin to our Northeastern family. She has a funny, light-hearted personality, yet is a fierce competitor when she steps on the field. We are looking forward to add her smart decision making and ball distribution to our team."
 
Before NU: A two-year player at George Watson's College under head coach Laurie Allen … School team won the Scottish Schools Indoor Championship in 2018 and the Scottish Schools Championship in 2017 … Team won the European Championship II in 2018 and was named 2018 Scottish Team of the Year … Won the Blue Wall Award for defense against Poland and Russia in the European Championship … Captained the Scottish U18 girls team in a series and was the permanent vice-captain for the 2018 season.
 
Personal: Daughter of Kevin Hart and Mairi Stewart … Has three brothers, Arran, Brodie, and Torrin … Outside of field hockey, enjoys music and drama … Also participated in tennis, distance running, and cricket, which she played for the U17 Scotland team … Was elected head girl of her school  in her final year. … Intends to major in health science and hopes to pursue a career in medicine … Class of 2023.

Morris on Kelso: "Maliea is a resilient, true defender and comes to us from a high school program with a winning tradition. She has a natural instinct in the backfield and is an intense competitor. I am very excited to add her to our defensive unit."
 
Before NU: A four-year letterwinner and captain senior year at Skowhegan Area High School under head coach Paula Doughty … Won three state championships during her tenure … Named Maine Player of the Year by Max Field Hockey in 2018 … Voted to All-New England Team all four years … Awarded All-American Third Team in 2018 and Second Team in 2017 … Competed in the Junior Olympics from 2015-17 … Plays for the Majestix club field hockey team.
 
Personal: Daughter of Jason and Jennell Kelso … Has one sibling, Mason … Her aunt Gina Davis played for the Boston College field hockey team, Class of 2002 … In her spare time enjoys playing softball, watching movies, and going to the beach … A member of the National Honor Society, Student Council (Class Treasurer), and yearbook … Intends to major in nursing/biology and wants to become an RN with a specialty … Class of 2023.

Morris on Meehan: "Alli has tremendous speed and deceptive elimination skills. In addition, when you see her on the field you will see her fighting for every possession, which, as a coach, I love."
 
Before NU: A four-year letterwinner and two-year captain at King Philip High School under head coach Erin MacDonald … Voted team and Hockomock League MVP her senior year, as well as Hockomock Sports Player of the Year … Awarded Boston Globe and Boston Herald All-Scholastic as a senior … Honored as a Hockomock League All Star her junior year … Was a two-year Sun Chronicle All Star and one time Second-Team All Star … Was a National Futures Championship Selection to the New England Team in 2018 and 2019.

Morris on Rowe: "Lauren brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to our team. She is a versatile defender, yet has a deceptive passing game and mean shot on goal."
 
Before NU: A four-year player at Norwich School under head coach Robert Sorrell … Appointed Vice Captain her third year and Captain her fourth year … Also played for the Harleston Magpies in the National League, as well as on their U18 outdoor squad and U16 and U18 indoor squads … Named to the Investec Women's England Hockey, East National league team of the year for the 2017-18 season … Awarded Young Player of the Season for the Harleston Magpies in 2017-18 … Her U16 and U18 indoor teams reached the National Finals every year she was there … She was also a School Prefect.
