Field Hockey Opens 2022 Campaign

BOSTON - The Northeastern field hockey team will open the 2022 season with a neutral site matchup at Alumni Field in Albany, N.Y., against No. 22 Ohio State on Friday, Aug. 26 at 3 p.m. The Huskies will be back on the turf the following day to take on UAlbany at 1 p.m., on Aug. 27.

THREE THINGS TO KNOW:

  1. Preseason Recognition: Lauren Rowe and Lara Taylor were both selected to the Preseason All-CAA Team, while graduate transfer and goaltender Jonna Kennedy received an honorable mention nod. Rowe tallied a team leading 32 points a year ago with 11 goals and 10 assists, including four game winning goals. Taylor posted five goals and an assist for 11 points in her first season with Northeastern. Kennedy is coming off a season with Boston College in which she earned ACC Defensive Player of the Year after making 3.75 saves a game with two shutouts. The Huskies were the No. 2 ranked team in the CAA preseason polls.

  1. It's Been a While: The Huskies own a 2-0 all-time record over the Buckeyes, with the last meeting coming in 1997. Against the Great Danes, the Huskies own a 4-0 advantage without allowing a goal. All four contests with UAlbany came in consecutive years from 2001-2004 when Northeastern competed in the America East.

  1. Points are Returning: With more than half the team in their first or second year, the Huskies return 83 of the 111 points scored last season and 33 of the 40 goals.

The Huskies will return for their home opener the following weekend on Sep. 4 at 12 p.m., against Stonehill College at Dedham Field.
